- FPK Foundation
The FPK Foundation (Fundacja Psa Karmela, in English: Karmel the Dog Foundation) is a Polish non-profit organization whose main mission is to rescue animals — especially dogs — that have never had the chance to experience human love, but know all too well what pain and suffering feel like.
In our foundation, a new and much more beautiful chapter of their lives begins. We rescue dogs mistreated by humans, provide them with medical care and loving attention, and run foster homes where they can stay until we find them a permanent home filled with warmth, kindness, and love.
Our foundation was founded by Polish photographer and activist Michał Gromada. Karmel, the dog who gave the foundation its name, is Michał’s own dog — a dog who was once mistreated but was fortunately rescued and given a second chance at life.

- We rescue dogs
Many dogs have never known a life other than a constant struggle to survive.
And suffering, pain… inflicted by humans.
On top of that: extreme neglect, hunger, slow death, untreated illnesses.
Stripped of their dignity. Chained up, without food or water.
This is the everyday reality for many animals.
We never walk past an animal in need!
We rescue them as quickly as we can, and we do everything in our power to bring those responsible for this cruelty to justice.
- Care and support for dogs
After years of neglect or abuse, it’s not easy to help an animal regain full health. But we do everything we can to make that happen.
In addition to medical treatment and basic procedures such as sterilisation, we also care deeply about our protégés’ emotional and mental well-being. We want them — as far as possible — to forget the abuse they endured and to discover what true human love really means.

- We run foster homes
Our foundation’s work is built above all on the foster homes we run.
It is our amazing volunteers who take the dogs directly into their own homes and care for them until they find their forever homes.
In these foster homes, the dogs get a warm place to sleep, go with their caregivers to vet appointments, receive time, attention, and learn what it’s like to live in a real home.
Our temporary caregivers provide them with care, safety, and above all — something they have never known before but have waited so long for — love.
- Adoptions
Our foster homes offer dogs a loving refuge,
but each one of our protégés deserves a warm, permanent home —
where they can nap on the couch, play, and go on walks with their very own people.
People who love them more than anything in the world.
That’s why we work with adoptions.
We search all over Poland for the best possible home for each animal,
always considering their unique personality and needs.
And when a dog leaves their foster home to move into their forever home,
we can open the door to save another life!

- About Karmel the Dog
Karmel is a small dog who, together with his sister, was abused and abandoned by the roadside.
In November 2019, a woman found these two lost dogs while driving. She wasn’t indifferent to their fate — she brought them with her to Warsaw.
It turned out that this woman was a friend of our foundation’s founder, Michał Gromada. Michał adopted Karmel, and his friend took care of Karmel’s sister.
Our four-legged friend got his name from the color of his coat — and the foundation was named in his honour.
If you think it’s people who run our foundation, you’re absolutely wrong.
The only true boss here is Karmel himself!
And Karmel, with all his heart, wishes that every one of his dog friends in need can one day experience the same happiness he did.
Karmel watches over all our protégés — yes, with one eye, because he can’t see out of the other.
But don’t worry — even with just one eye, he keeps a close watch on every new dog we rescue!
